Who We Are
Alex Sherman is a seasoned mycology expert with a background in nutrient cycling, regenerative agriculture, and food innovation. At UC Davis, Alex studied soil systems and the ecological role of mycorrhizal fungi in agriculture and forestry. He later worked with wine producers and agricultural farms before transitioning to mushroom industry leadership — scaling Maitake production, developing cGMP programs for dietary supplements, and advising numerous CPG and supplement brands.
Alex served on the Psychedelic Plants & Fungi, Botanical Raw Materials, and Sustainability Committees at the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), helping shape national standards for quality, ethics, and sustainability in the functional mushroom and herbal industries.
Spore Growth Partners is the expression of Alex’s ikigai — the intersection of scientific knowledge, regenerative systems, creative entrepreneurship, and community healing.
His current mission is to upend the functional mushroom market with transparent testing and accountability through developing standardized protocols for testing bioactive compounds in functional mushrooms.
